LITTLE DETAILS AND PLOT POINTS I FORGOT ABOUT IN SEASON 1

From like episode 65 onwards

• The Kiki and Zane baby pendent plot line is so odd like did that actually do anything that impacts the plot? Like why would Zane have a reason to do that? I know he’s evil and all but he has goal he’s trying to reach and what does Kiki having a werewolf baby have to do with that? I’m probably just forgetting more stuff that happens later in the season to be honest.

• Plus you would think that Garroth would have been more concerned about it seeing as Leona could have potentially been his niece.

• When the group gets lost after they leave Malachi’s castle Laurance suggests that Garroth could cuddle with the horses while him and aph cuddle

• He later also clears away poison ivy for a “romantic camping spot” at Lucinda’s while Aph kills crabs

• Garroth is the one that taught Levin to call Aphmau Mama (I think it would be funny if Levin sort of had a british accent because of Garroth and says some words differently like Mum)

• Garroth actively tries to start pursuing Aphmau after the castle with Malachi (presumably because Laurance spent the whole trip getting there convincing Garroth to tell Aphmau his feelings)

• While they’re traveling Laurance seems to constantly trying to force Garroth to confess his feelings to Aphmau and straight up tells Aph that Garroth has feelings for her at nether portal at the werewolf village

• Garroth tries to confess his feelings at camp at Lucinda’s house but Laurance is listening in and only interrupts when Garroth changes the topic to Brightport

• Laurance comes up with the idea of the phoenix alliance

• For some reason Laurance knows everything and is always explaining stuff to Aphmau like he’s the human equivalent of an lore info dump like he’s the one that forces Garroth to talk about his father (Laurance is the world building of this universe)

• Neither Aphmau or Laurance ever sleep

• Dante stays up a lot too and in the beginning he likes to be alone

• Laurance is always eavesdropping on everyone’s conversations literally he is the nosiest.

• Laurance is also way too chill about knowing Gene and for some reason just never says anything to Dante??

• Also I skipped some episodes because season one is slow and I haven’t finished rewatching season 1 but Dante is really chill about Laurance being a shadow knight despite having his entire life being torn apart by his shadow knight brother

• Laurance tells the shadow knight lady and innkeeper in Pikoro to never stop loving her probably because it helps keep her human and wishes Aphmau would do the same for him.

• Laurance is more of a realist than Garroth is both are good at reading situations but Laurance tends to less optimistic than Garroth is (probably from his experiences in the nether.)

• Laurance is also just very good at reading people and understanding their weaknesses

• Laurance realizes that love is able fight against the shadow knight’s magic and that furthers it as a theme in the story

• Garroth despite having a rivalry with Laurance confides in him often and this gives Laurance an intimate look into Garroth’s thoughts

• Laurance pretends to lean in but there’s actually a ladybug on Aph’s shoulder before just telling her about the Magicks and Witchcraft war

• Garroth goes out of his way to try and to spend time with Aphmau like trying to walk her home.

• Dante asks for a combat doll from Nana and thinks he’s met her somewhere before (I don’t remember if this comes back later in the series) and I feel like it hints at a future romance pretty well as first interaction.

• Garroth catches Aphmau when she falls from the tree and Aphmau is pretty calm about the whole situation despite that being a terrifying thing to happen (plus I feel like Garroth should have been more scared and thankful he caught her time like he nearly lost the woman he’s in love with.)

• Then they play with both Levin and Malachi in the tree house like a little family

• Laurance gives Levin and Malachi a book that Zoey reads to them (in my rewrite it would be the legend/fairy tale of aphmau’s name)

• Lucinda and Nana used to have rival cat cafes! Then they have duel!

• Laurance wears gold armor for couple episodes before getting the armor upgrade

• Garroth removes his helm when Aphmau asks him to immediately where before he refused. He trusts Aphmau and presumably Laurance and Dante completely.

• Garroth designed armor when he was younger probably at guard school that somehow Katelyn got a hold of and turned into armor for the guards along coordinating colors that match their personalities

• Garroth, Dante, and Laurance are all on the jury of 9 waitlist

I’m rewatching season one and it’s so much information to sift through. Also there are millions of other things that I probably forgot. Don’t get me wrong, I love it but after season one Jess went a different direction with the storytelling and that was a great decision.

I'm not going to lie if we ever got an official graphic novel I'd rather they bring back a similar style instead of the anime one she made for all the mystreet and rebirth posters.

The characters chosen has always been a thing that bothered me. Like Shad, Aphmau, Garroth all make sense and look pretty good in the composition, Alina looks good too but Dante just brought his whole ass family like I could have done without Nana and maybe Dmitri since he just looks like a mini Dante

alright, alright, fine, i'll admit! I remember not liking Garroth the first go around. I don't remember WHY. I was also a cat 5 hater back then, and I REALLY REALLY fucking liked Aaron (the guy gave me gender envy AND made me realize I was capable of liking guys. I had a really specific type) so maybe I literally just didn't like him bc I wanted aphmau and aaron to kiss. I also was sort of not a huge fan of het romances at all anyways, usually bc I subconciously wanted to date the woman involved, and I wouldn't be too shocked if child me, who everybody thought would be a raging butch lesbian when I grew up, had a massive crush on the cool pretty protagonist with the cool goddess lore and the angel wings. I turned out to be a deeply bisexual man who would do anything for his wife, so take that as you will, I don't know.

But as an ADULT watching this show, I'll fucking tell you what, Garroth so far is an excellently written fantasy man and it is so easy to imagine characters falling for him! By episode 22, when he's finally able to walk a bit after Zenix shoots him, and he sees Aphmau with the baby. The way he's so concerned for the baby's health after learning it was abandoned. The way he immediately signs up to coparent him with Aph. "...You know, he's kind of cute. He reminds me of someone." I can just imagine him having offered a finger to Levin, and Levin grabs his finger and just smiles one of those big round baby smiles, and then he says that and him and Aphmau share a smile for the first time since Garroth got hurt... a small moment of hope after so much terrible shit... especially knowing that here's Garroth at a VERY low point, a protector forced to rest in bed, having missed so much action, having been betrayed by his trusted apprentice, WHO WAS LIKE A SON TO HIM. And he is ready. He is THERE for Levin. He's ready to try to find the kid's parents if they're out there.

I think that right there is something that can just really sell you on the good of a character. And also he's so dad. Somebody PLEASE give him a child to parent that he won't have to give up or anything.

Things I Have Noticed/Remembered from my MCDiaries rewatch

I will be updating this as I continue my rewatch, currently everything listed is out of order, cause I've started writing this as I am on episode 64 of season 1 and I don't feel like fixing it to be in order, so sorry!

What the fuck was Garroth's "plan" he mentions to Zenix in the first episode 😭

Zenix seems to be younger then Garroth in Diaries, considering the way that Garroth talks about him, but I think in MyStreet, Zenix is either the same age or slightly older then Garroth, so far this is like, the only obvious age difference between the series (besides Travis and everyone else of course)

I forgot how entertaining Brendan's character is, he's far less annoying then I remembered

ZANE AS AN ACTUAL BAD PERSON, I LOVE HIM

I love Vylad, but I legit forgot how much he was in Diaries season 1, I thought he was in it far less

Currently at the stage of Diaries where there is no lgbt+ people, i'm very disappointed by this (we haven't even reached the queerbaiting)

KC's character is....not as bad (racist) as I was expecting, still not great though. I'm choosing to believe that KC is from Tu'lu and Maid Cafes are a thing there, and "Kawaii~Chan" is just a stage name for her work.

Y'all know how Cadenza went missing and she was actually turned into a chicken? Yeah, the way Hayden, Castor, & Laurance talk about her to Aphmau makes it sound like Cadenza is a small child. But then it turns out she's the same age, if not older, then Laurance and Aphmau.

Aphmau should've just made Joh and Hayden lovers, I'm so serious, it would make the whole Cadenza and Laurance being "close like siblings" in season 1 to I think actually being called as siblings in season 2 and in MyStreet a lot easier to understand and make a lot more sense.

Why does Kenmur have like, some sort of romance with all the girls from Meteli??? He was engaged to Sasha and is stated to have feelings for Cadenza.

I love when the episodes open from Sasha's POV, and she goes and talks to Gene and there's just no voices. I love having to pause to read what they're saying. (this point is sarcasm)

The way literally everyone reacted to learning Laurance was blind was....icky. Like, I understand Cadenza and Aphmau reacting as like "we need to find a way to bring his sight back", but the fact that it was literally EVERYONE who decided he needed to get his sight back was so weird.

I don't mind Laurance ACTUALLY getting his sight back, but I wish it was done differently. Like, personally, I'd have him like, have to wash his face with the water of the fountain of Lady Irene.

Emma & Corey, Dale & Molly, and Logan & Donna are very sweet couples.

After Zoey and KC were able to turn Cadenza back to her human form, Zoey mentions that she "recognizes Cadenza from somewhere", but I don't think this goes anywhere???? I'm assuming it was supposed to hint at like, Cadenza's backstory.

ngl, I kinda wish we got more of Zane and Kiki's relationship, I really wanna know what side of Zane Kiki actually saw.

Anyway, Kiki is currently expecting.

Nicole (my beloved) has showed up. I've decided I won't question the logic behind her iron fists being able to break bedrock, and instead say that her referencing her iron fists just made me think of Ace from One Piece and Natsu & Gajeel from Fairy Tail.

I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT NICOLE'S FOX, ROXY, AND ABOUT THE WYVERNS IN GENERAL 😭

I need to mention that in one episode (before Aphmau went to Scaleswind and learned about Lady Irene), Garroth says to Aphmau "by the seven", which I think she was hurt, but the use of "by the seven" is similar to how the same phase would be used in Game of Thrones or to how irl lots of people say "oh my god", so I'm really wondering if there were originally supposed to be 7 Divine Warriors instead of 6.

The way when Aphmau found Levin and decided to keep him and Garroth IMMEDIATLY decided he would be Levin's father figure.

The way when Laurance found out that Aphmau had a kid, his response was to play with Levin and say to Aphmau "you didn't tell me you had this little buddle of joy/energy".

I’m hooked on Adam!Dream at the moment so bare with me.

Baby Dream was drastically very different from Levin and Malachi, really any baby to be honest. He’d learn and pick things up much more faster then physically possible. A big indicator that Dream wasn’t human but no one really thought to check into that particular vein of possibility. Apart from his eyes which glowed a lot like Herobrine, Sparklez, and Sky’s he had pupils which almost turned white sometimes. Though only when stressful.

Other things like magical abilities came way quicker then anyone was anticipating. The way everyone found out Dream had possessed some kind of magic was when Mitch, who was babysitting for Sky, had came in to wake Dream up for a nap. Only to freeze in fear as his eyes landed on an empty crib only to look up to see Dream floating in his sleep, still cradled in his blanket just like Mitch left him. It took everything in Mitch’s body not to scream or start yelling in general out of fear and he had to leave the room to go call Seto. He greeted Sky over face call that night with “So your kid can fucking fly-“

Dream teethed on everything and i mean everything. Rings, shoes, toys, clothing, anything his grubby hands could get on. It’s one of the few traits that stuck with him all through out his life. Even know he subconsciously chews on metal necklaces or hard crystals that are sewn into his royal clothing. It’s a nervous tick he’d gotten from Puffy who chewed on her fingers or mouthed on her ear when deep thinking. It was also the one thing that would 100% keep him occupied for hours on end. Though in the end it caused his jaw strength to be wildly strong and both Levin and Malachi still have exact bite marks when they taunted Dream a little to harshly for the blondes liking. Biting is also another way he shows affection so its not uncommon to see Dream flounce over to an older Admin he apprenticed under or one of his friends in the academy and gently bite and tug and their clothes with his teeth.

Head bumping is another affectionate thing he picked up. Though unlike a ram or sheep hybrid who just bump and go, Dream rubs his head/face into the other person. Humming and or giggling all the while. It became an inside joke with his graduation class and they all picked up on it. Some do it to show just general affection, others do it to get attention for a project or problem their on, and everyone uses it to greet each other. It makes Dream smile so soft and warm when he catches then others doing it and he can’t help to take a deep breath of the other person’s scent when they lean into him.

Despite being generally very loud and the type of person to fill up the room no matter the size, a thing Aphmau and Seto taught him in case he was caught by paparazzi anywhere when he didn’t have his mask on, Dream’s naturally silent. Just like a baby when he’s concentrating he damn well disappears. It proved to be very good talent when sneaking around the academy at night or just generally sneaking out of any room. Footsteps nonexistent even while running, in sneakers or barefoot it doesn’t matter though he hasn’t accomplished heels just yet. It scares everyone constantly because a lot of the times Dream doesn’t even mean to go silent. Just to caught up with lectures or watching his family give him demonstrations on things. It’s also very good for prank wars and both he and Brotato stay as an undefeated duo.

Though the two almost look nothing alike, Dream and Sky share almost every personal trait possible. Their laugh is one of the biggest shared traits. High and wheezy or soft chuckling it doesn’t matter, they’ve confused almost everyone in the Admin castle with their laughs. Talent in general is another thing. Unlike Sparklez and Herobrine who just go about their day to day with little to nothing new in their life, Sky and Dream have to constantly find something new or challenge themselves to do something better. It’s a constant back and forth with who can do so many games in a time span or just have as much fun as possible. Their talents range from competitive ice skating (Dream) to archery on dragonback (Sky) and there’s really nothing unturned between the two.

George and Sapnap only really became friends with Dream when they were a lot younger because their parents wanted or suggested they should. It wasn’t really known to the public, and even more so the rich socialist circles that gather every month for charities, what Dream looked like so a lot of them just assumed he was a baby cousin or an apprentice Admin under one of the cabinets when he got older. Even they still don’t know Dream is an Adams until when the server crumbled under corrupted code and they had to be taken to the Admin castle for decontamination. Once they were in the all clear Sky had swooped in, cape majestically flying behind him, and scooped up Dream in a hug who was still to frail and skinny for anyone’s liking. It really showed that George and Sapnap still viewed their level of friendship with Dream as an obligation more then anything else and that Dream knew yet still treated them like brothers.

Kirsten from the start adored Dream to pieces. Every time she was able to be out of the realm she was back at the castle. Never really putting down Dream from the moment she got there. Though it did cause stress between her and Phil and their son Wilbur. Kristen had obligations that needed her time at the castle so she could never really leave the grounds no more then for a few hours but Phil was always welcomed and could have brought Wilbur with him to come see her. Though the man never did. This causes Kristen to believe that their splitting without talking, even if its for a few months or even a thousand years because all three are immortal and time doesn’t hold against them, and so she focuses more on Dream. The boy unknowingly becoming the favorite child out of spite more then anything when Kristen learned that Phil adopted Techno and Tommy as well without telling her. The Angel just assuming she would want more kids and it would cause her to come to him then he going to her. This, of course, backfires drastically.

Sky and Kristen aren’t romantically together at all, much like Tubbo and Ranboo, their what the God’s collectively call it “platonically married”. Just without the rings and everything. Their main focus is on Dream, Kristen more then ever when she finds out Dream is her universal half being the God of Life, and nothing more. They do get odd looks from herobrine and Notch because the two don’t really understand. Everything could easily be misrepresented because Kristen has moved her belongings that stay in the castle into Sky’s room and the two share the same bed and bathroom. There’s no real good excuse why the two did it besides Kristen wanting to be closer to Dream, especially when the boys magic started being affected by his sleep and nightmares and Sky started struggling to contain it safely, but they really don’t care.

Nicknames are a big, and I mean big, thing in the Adams family. No one, not even new friends, get to leave the castle without one permanent nickname. Some only have like two or three while others could fill a whole phone book with names. It’s very rare their actual names are actually said inside the castle walls, Sparkles had to continue to correct himself for years since he was dream’s homeroom teacher till graduation, so it’s just natural for them. Which means when dream called Technoblade Bacon it was never an insult, it just slipped out and Dream naturally clung to the name as he hasn’t called anyone else by a nickname because he couldn’t with the way everything was going. Even Nightmare couldn’t hold his tongue down from continuously calling Techno Bacon while in the prison.

Vylad stood in the center of the growing village and home of the Pheonix Alliance, staring down at the paved stone path under his worn and tattered boots. He should really try and get some new ones one day, he thought to himself, nudging a stray rock as a female voice cut through a silence so loud and suffocating that he felt like he was being crushed.

"What did you just say?" Aphmau questioned, her voice revealing how shocked she was over what Vylad had muttered, apparently not realizing she wasn't suppose to hear it.

"That's not your business, Aphmau."

"Yes, it is actually, Vylad. Tell me what you said!"

His left eye twitched a bit, hands balling into fists, knuckles turning white as Vylad raised his head, green orbs meeting golden ones, practically glowing with unspoken hatred and anger.

"I said." The Shadow Knight hissed out, not bothering to hide any of the venom in his voice, "That. All. Of. This. Is. Because. Of. You."

Aphmau drew herself up as much as she could, which didn't do much since she was only a few inches taller than the man permanently trapped in the physical appearance of a 15 year old boy, narrowing her eyes and speaking loudly. Asserting her dominance, Vylad realized, watching as Laurance, Garroth, and the rest of the island's inhabitants gathered to see what is going on.

"You, Vylad, do not have any right to talk to me like that. Unless you've forgotten, I'm the Lor-"

"YOU AREN'T MY LORD!" Vylad suddenly screamed, cutting her off as his eyes flashed red. He stepped towards her, the anger, pain, hatred.. all of it seeping off of him in waves as everyine couldn't help but cower away from the angry immortal.

"I do not serve anyone. Especially not you. Ever since you've come into existance, everything you've ever done has brought nothing but pain. Because of you, Zenix snapped and has killed MILLIONS of my kind!"

"Vylad..," Laurance began, taking a step forwards and reaching a hand out to touch his boyfriend's shoulder, only to be practically thrown backwards as Vylad shoved him off.

"DON'T TOUCH ME! Don't even speak! You should be mad at her too! She's the reason you went to the Nether in the first place. If she had just minded her own god damn business, then you would have never gone to the Nether and gotten trapped!" He screamed, face slowly turning a bright red from his anger. His eyes were pure red, and literal steam was wafting off his body, the air around him growing dangerously and uncomfortably hot.

Aphmau stared at him, her usual calm exterior turning to one of anger. "How dare you blame what happened to Laurance on me? Laurance told me YOU were the one who broke the portal and got him trapped! I-I can't even... Why would you ever think everything is my fault!?" She screamed right back, letting out a startled and pained yelp, her cheek flaring up in pain, heat shooting through the left side of her face. The skin of her cheek began to blister and turn red, in the shape of a hand mark.

Vylad's hand hovered in the air for a second, eyes narrowed at the Lord, waiting.. daring her to try and speak again. She didn't, and so he rewarded her with what had been on his mind for over 15 years.

"Because.. it is all your fault. If you never cane to Phoenix Drop, Zenix would still be there, still be somewhat sane. Zane would've never found the village, or Garroth, if you hadn't gotten that bitch Donna and her werewolf lover together. I wouldn't have had to shut the Nether portal to keep the Shadow Knoghts from going to the overworld, and Laurance wouldn't have gotten trapped. I wouldn't have had to spend over two-hundred-fourteen years trapped in a cell for closing the portal, not a single clue of what's happening in this realm. Then, I manage to finally fucking get free and lo-and-behold, you're the first person I fucking run into. And you know what? I was willibg to honestly put aside my disdain for you and try to be nice. And so I ask you what happened to garroth and Zane. YOU DON'T FUCKING TELL SOMEONE THAT THEY'RE BOTH DEAD, NO MATTER IF THEY'RE THEIR HALF-BROTHER OR NOT!"

"Baby brother, Aphmau didn't know.." Garroth told him, voice soothing as he trued to calm the enraged beast that practically towered above them, not showing that he was furious with Vylad for slapping Aphmau.

Vylad looked at him, fuming and steaming, and for a second it seemed like he might actually calm down, before he ran his finger over the engagement ring on his hand, and returned to fueling the flames with even more vigor.

"NO. BECAUSE OF THIS LAZY EXCUSE OF A LORD, OUR BROTHER IS DEAD GARROTH! OUR CHILDHOOD BEST FRIEND IS DEAD! JEOFFREY IS DEAD BECAUSE OF HER! UNGRTH, BRIAN, VISHER! SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE DIED BECAUSE OF HER CARELESS ACTIONS! SHE IS THE REASON MY OLDER BROTHER IS DEAD, THE REASON MY BEST FUCKING FRIEND SINCE I COULD WALK, IS DEAD! AND DON'T YOU DARE TRY AND SAVE THIS BY SAYING THAT SHE'S DONE SO MANY GOOD THING BECAUSE, YOU KNOW WHAT!?"

He stared at all of them, waiting for someone to pipe up, eyes scanning the crowd, watching everyone who he laid his gaze on flinch away, even Lucinda. Finally, a soft voice, belonging to a young blue haired giard in training was heard, asking the question they all know Vylad wanted to hear.

"Why?"

"Because.. every good fucking thing she has ever achieved, has been because I made sure of it. I've stayed in the background pulling strings for years to help her succeed and all I've gotten in return is nothing but pain, abandonment, and death of loved ones. I was the one who resurrected her, led her to Phoenix Drop, guided her in the right direction, gave her Levin. Small things that, if I hadn't done.. She would've never been where she is right now. So you can alls ay that Aphmau is this great, amazing Lord who has brought nothing but good, but I know the truth. Cause everytime something good happens for all of you.. something horrible happens to me."

"Why are you upset over Zane?! He killed you!" Laurance screamed at him, his own eyes flashing red.

Red meets red, before turning back to green as Vylad's voice becane dangerously calm, like the quiet peace before disaster. "No matter what my feeling towards Zane are, they don't erase the simple fact that my brother.. TWO of my brothers, are dead because of her. Laurance, don't you see everything that she's done? She's no hero.. no matron."

Vylad stared at Laurance, desperate to have someone at least seem like they're on his side. But his heart shattered as he watched red fade to blue, before Laurance turned his gaze away, a silent answer.

"Fine." He swallowes, throat closing up as the anger dissipitates, replaced by a familair aching loneliness. "Fine! I see that it appears I'm no longer wanted here. But keep this in mind, 'Lord' Aphmau.. making an enemy of a Ro'Meave is a very dangerous idea."

With that, he turned on his heel, storming off, leaving behind burtn footprints where he had just stood. Everyone watched Vykad storm away, disappearing into the forests, before turning to Aphmau and making sure she was ok.

"Give him some time.. he'll come around and realize he was in the wrong." Garroth assured his two friends, helping soothe Aphmau's burnt cheek.

But unkown to them, Vylad was unassembling his makeshift camp, gathering his items, and preparing to depart through the portal to Phoenix Drop, with the plan of returning to an old friend instead. His dark green eyes landed on his engagement ring that he wore on his middle finger, gently easing it off after years of never removing it. Looking at the small gold band, with a name carved into the inner rim, he felt hot, burning tears slide down his cheeks, blistering the skin that they touched. Anger flared in his chest, a new determination being born. He carefully replaced the ring, but instead of on his muddle finger, he put it where it belonged. Where it should've never been removed. Where he should've never left.

"I'm coming home... Zenix."

Chapter 5: Growing

FUCK cannon, dale and molly stay in phoenix drop, kiki would too for now but i think she would move to scaleswind later so there's still a bit of cannon continuity there. Brendan still lives out by meteli ruins but he visits town often. Also I dont think i wanna write his wife in cuz she had like No character or relevance?? Also gay rights. Luca (Donna and Logan’s youngest kid) is Babie years old by the start of S2, so i dont think she exists yet right now. Half of these notes aren’t even relevant to this chapter whoopsies.

It had been a week since his conversation with Levin. And he had stayed. He still wasn’t quite sure why- he promised himself he would have no attachments, that is the only way to stay sane as a Shadowknight after all. But he had stayed. And he had a new list of observations to add to the town.

1: Many of the children of the town had stayed, save for one named Brian, who was apparently a traitor. He hadn’t been seen since the day Aphmau disappeared. Many of the children had grown up and taken up jobs in the town, despite being all too young in Vylad’s opinion. Levin was apparently only 17, and had already taken up position of lord. Levin’s brother and assistant was also apparently 16, but he gave off an odd air that made Vylad think otherwise. He had only passed by him once or twice, but he didn’t give off the air of a Shadowknight, and he didn’t seem to be immortal due to any elvish heritage, so Vylad had no clue what his deal was. (He did approve of his sense of style though.)

2: Many of the guards were teenage as well, save for Dante and the ex-guard Dale who assisted from time to time. He wanted to have faith in the safety of the town, but he knew it couldn’t be too reliable judging by the durability of the wall, and the qualifications of the guard. Many of the houses that he assumed were just abandoned at first glance, he now knew were most likely ransacked too. If he was really planning on staying, town security would be something he would need to focus on. (Vylad considered becoming a guard for a split second, but decided against it. He wasn’t cut out for the job. Not that he wasn’t qualified, he figured he was much more qualified than the many children who were recruited to guard it. But his talents lied better used elsewhere.)

3: Some of the older residents had actually stayed, or at least stayed nearby. Kiki, the local animal expert and now farmer, stayed on the edges of town. Not a very safe place to live, but apparently the only place with a big enough building to house her animals. Brendan, her brother, lived a bit further away, but came in to visit often. Dale and Molly had stayed to take care of their daughter, who had refused to leave the town she had grown up in. Donna and Logan had a large family that seemed to only be getting larger, with three sons, two of which were twins. The eldest seemed to often be out on business, and the twins were convinced he was part bird. (Long story. They had spotted him in an odd part of the large tree in town, and yelled up at him for hours trying to ask how he had made it there. It was a bit annoying, but it reminded him of Garroth and himself as kids, so he tolerated it. They seemed like good kids.)

4: In better news, Vylad had found a decent place to live. The Yggdrasil tree in town was absolutely huge, and even better, nobody dared climb further than the already established paths up it. Vylad did though, and he’d found a nice, (mostly) quiet spot in the branches. He basically lived up there, he “slept” there at night, and went there when he was tired of the town. It reminded him of his days spent camped in the woods outside Phoenix Drop, except with a much… much larger tree. He was sure many of the town residents thought he was odd, although he didn’t particularly care. He liked staying in the tree much better than staying in an abandoned, ransacked house.

 And so in the tree he stayed. He wasn’t particularly busy, just looking out over the town like how he’d done in the good old days. The view from his perch was nice, much better than any view he’d gotten from his early days of spying from outside the town. From up here, the town didn’t look as bad off as he’d originally thought. Sure, the wall was a bit ruined, there was no way around that, but the houses were mostly just empty, not broken, and the overgrowth had a certain charm to it.

 He heard an odd shifting in the leaves, and a creaking from the branches closer to the trunk of the tree. He looked over to see Dante, shakily making his way towards him. He stared curiously, climbing wasn’t his greatest forte. He tried his best, but the tree groaned precariously whenever he tried to make his way out too far.

“That… miiight be the closest I can get. This armor isn’t meant for climbing.” He laughed awkwardly, although after a bit of struggling in the branches, he wasn’t too far away.

“That’s alright. Did you need something?”

“No, not particularly. I just wanted to chat.”

Vylad raised an eyebrow. “I’m not exactly the ‘chatting’ type.”

Dante laughed. “A bit blunt, but I gathered that. I guess that’s why I wanted to talk, if that makes sense.”

It didn’t really, but Vylad didn’t say anything.

“Like uhh… I dunno. Where are you from?”

Ah. So that’s what this was about. Luckily, a week of free time gave Vylad time to make a workable cover story, though he really didn’t need to change much. The best lies are built on truth, after all.

Vylad shrugged. “O’khasis.”

Dante seemed a bit shocked. “Really?”

“Yeah. Grew up there.”

“... And how do you feel about it now?”

“Well, I don’t live there anymore and don’t plan on going back, so I think that’s clear enough.”

The tension eased.

 “What about you?”

Dante blinked. “I’m sorry?”

“I answered your question. So what about you? Where did you grow up?”

Dante paused a moment, then laughed a bit too stiffly. “Middle of nowhere, really. The town’s probably been wiped off the map by now.”

Something about it seemed off, but maybe it was just a bad memory of him. Vylad had no intention of judging. (For all he knew, it could’ve been him doing the wiping. His early history as a Shadowknight was not the brightest. He swallowed hard at the thought.)

 Vylad paused a bit too long, so Dante butted back in. “Ok, my turn again.”

“What? That’s not how this works.”

“That’s exactly how this works! That’s what you did.” Dante continued. Vylad was wise enough to know that there was no winning an argument against a child.

“Aaaanyways. Why’d you leave?”

“I… well I used to work as a guard there. But it wasn’t for me, and I got sick of it. One day I just… packed my bags.” A bit bland, but it seemed realistic enough of a lie to him. Strangely enough, it was much more believable than the truth.”

“A guard, huh? So you’re combat-trained?”

“Hey, it’s my turn.”

“You said you didn’t like to chat.”

“I don’t, and it’s my turn. Anything else you’d like to add?”

Dante scoffed, but remained silent, so Vylad continued.

“Why’d you stay here? I mean no offense, but the town has seen better days. Why not just get up and go?”

Dante sighed. He took a moment to think on this one. “This town… means a lot to me. The place it used to be, the people who used to live here… it all means a lot. I think even if I did move, it’d still come back to haunt me.” He laughed hollowly.

“Besides, I’ve got a family here. Wife and kid. And the people who are still here, we might as well be family too. We’re happy here.”

Fair enough.

 Dante cleared his throat. “So. Combat-trained? Wouldn’t mind a little help with the guard. Or a spar sometime.”

“I haven’t picked up a sword in a long time. Besides, I’m better with archery, and I haven’t done that in years either. Too rusty for a fair fight, probably.”

“Ah, oh well. Keep it in mind, I’d really appreciate the help with the guard sometime if you ever felt up to it.”

“Mm. I’ll be sure to do that.” He did not plan on doing that.

Mr. Zvahl had begun to look a bit bored. He’d began to pick at the bark next to him, and seemed more focused on the tree than the conversation. Perhaps Dante had overstayed his welcome. One more question each, then he’d get out of his hair.

“Why do you call me Mr. Zvahl?”

“...Zvahl is your name, is it not?”

“No, not that. What’s with the ‘Mr.’ title.”

“Oh. I guess it’s just formalities? I can just call you Zvahl, if you prefer that.”

“Formalities were never my thing either. Go ahead.” He gave him a slight nod.

 “Alright. One last question and I’ll quit bothering you for the day. Why do you stay up here so much?”

He shrugged. “Dunno. I’ve always liked nature. Plus its quiet, and the view’s nice.”

“You know, you can get just as good a view from the guard tower, and you don’t have to worry about falling off constantly.”

“The guard tower? You mean the one that’s so overgrown that you can’t see out of it?”

“I… You get used to it.”

“Mmm. I think I’m good up here, thanks.”

Dante sighed. “Fair enough. I’ve got work, so I should probably go. I’ll see you around, Zvahl.”

He awkwardly scooted back to a platform built into the tree, and walked away. It hadn’t gone as bad as he thought it might, they’d actually managed to have a conversation. This one wasn’t even steeped in tension and mistrust! Definitely a success in Dante’s books. Maybe he could grow to get used to him.

 The next day, before Dante went on his morning guard duty, he couldn’t help but notice that the overgrowth on the main guard tower seemed to be gone.

Continuing on my mcd thoughts from last night, I actually cannot believe that Garroth betrayed Aphmau and Phenoex Drop, not because he was under some sort of spell but out of his own free will because he felt entitled to Aphmau's love and attention! I think that the craziest thing is that when middle school me watched the last episodes of season one I actually felt bad for HIM! And now that I'm older I have a completely different opinion on him and his character. He used to be my favorite character from any of Jess' series, so watching the season finale for the first time in 9 years and realizing that the selfless character who I adored acted like a man baby because the woman he'd never had a relationship with or even confessed his love to was dating someone.... it hurts, but I still stand by my theory that this and the way Laurence did a 180 in season 2 and also felt entitled to Aphmau's love being was Jess intentionally sabotaging them so garmau and laumau fans would stop harassing her. Because it doesn't make sense, neither one of then would act this childish and it pissses me off.

Also, I still wonder what it was that made Jess timeskip 15 YEARS!! I tried watching season two twice but stopped each time because admittedly middle school me was a toxic garmau shipper and it pissed me off that 1.) laumau was getting more moments and 2.) that it was obvious that Aph would end up with Aaron. But now that I don't gaf about any of these ships, I think I can actually finish season 2 this time. But watching these episodes is so difficult because it's soooo fucking sad are you kidding me?! I actually teared up when she said goodbye to Levin and Malichi because I knew they wouldn't see her for 15 years and that she had missed their childhood. And Zoey...I've heard that people in that fandom headcanon her as a lesbian who was in love with Aphmau because why else would she take care of her kids even before Aphmau and the others left, for free and getting nothing in return?? I of course love the idea of Zoey being a lesbian, but her spending 15 years of her life trying to bring her back from Irene's dimension and giving up her immortality in the process......it just makes me sad. This whole season makes me sad. I don't know how I can do the impossible feat of watching till the end when I cry every other episode.
